Virginia “Ginny” Alice Deinhammer, age 84, of Perham, MN and formerly of Babbitt, MN passed away on February 17, 2026 at Perham Living with family at her side.
Ginny was born November 18, 1941 in Port Clinton, Ohio to Justin and Helen Rofkar. She grew up on a fruit orchard on Catawba Island, Ohio. Ginny graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1959.
She worked at the Port Clinton National Bank for five years. William (Bill) Deinhammer was working in Port Clinton and in the fall of 1963, a mutual friend set them up on a blind date. Bill proposed to her on New Year’s Eve 1963 and they were married on April 11, 1964 in Port Clinton, Ohio.
They moved to Babbitt in the spring of 1965 where Bill took a job at Reserve Mining.
Ginny would raise three children, Mike, Mary and Amy while being an active member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church, including Sacred Heart and Mission circles and taught Catechism for many years. She was active in several bridge clubs and enjoyed gardening and crappie fishing. She worked as a special ed aide for several years and when the kids left to start their own families Ginny enrolled at Vermilion Community College to further her education. Later she worked in quality control at Irresistible Ink in Ely, with a group of ladies she enjoyed working with. When Bill retired in 2000, Ginny would retire a year later.
They lived in Babbitt for 57 years, first on Daisy Lane and later on Locust Drive. In 2020, they moved to Perham, where they were members of St. Henry’s Catholic Church. She made the best chocolate chip cookies and she loved playing cards, especially with her grandkids. There have been many games of Smear, Tic and Skip-Bo played around her table.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Justin and Helen Rofkar, brother James Rofkar, sister-in-law Rose Deinhammer and brother-in-law Vernon Deininger.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill; children Mike (Geneen) Deinhammer of Apple Valley, MN, Mary (Nick) Wognum of Ely, MN and Amy (Brian) Bramley of Perham, MN; sisters Lois Deininger and Janet Root; brother-in-law Rich Deinhammer; grandchildren Mitchell (Jackie) Deinhammer, Kelsey Deinhammer, Justin Deinhammer, Hunter Deinhammer, Jacob (Kyah) Wognum, Megan (Ben) Bialik, Evan (Nella) Wognum, Kristina (Tyler) Litman, Emily (Kyler) Coleman; great-grandchildren Augustine and his brother or sister due any day, Kinlee, Bridger, Driggs and Caden plus many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt with a private burial in Argo Cemetery following the ceremony.
